In 1977 I co-wrote ‘Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll’ with Ian Dury kickstarting a life changing creative relationship that spawned other compositions including ‘Hit me with your Rhythm Stick’, ‘Reasons to be Cheerful part3′, ‘Sweet Gene Vincent’, ‘Blockheads’, ‘Wake up and Make Love With Me’, ‘Inbetweenies’, ‘Spasticus Autisticus’, ‘Itinerant Child’ and ‘You’re the Why’.
I still write and perform with the Blockheads (latest album” Same Horse, Different Jockey”, including one of my favourite songs i’ve co-written “Express Yourself” – but have also been writing and developing music in my studio at home. Out of the hundreds of ideas I’ve come up with, only a mere handful are what I call ‘special’. But unlike in the 80s when I was quite happy to sing my material, these days I prefer to collaborate with other singers/writers, whether its for their own recordings/projects or mine – and that is what’s in my 2010 album ‘The Submarine has surfaced’. My forthcoming album is scheduled for release in 2016 //new tracks will be exclusively available on this site//

This short film (Beyond Words) documents life in a day – on and around the river Fowey in Cornwall, England…
Directed and music composed by Chaz Jankel, filmed and edited by Dylan Martin.
My first movie score was for “an unsuitable job for a woman”….based on a PD James novel…directed by Chris Petit back in the late 1970s. Since that time i’ve composed music for a number of movies including D.O.A, K2 and a documentary called “From the ashes” about the cricket legend Ian Botham
