Cherry and myself have worked together before earlier this century on a cover of “last night.i didnt get to sleep” originally recorded by the fifth dimension – our version is available on my album “a bit on the side” on iTunes.
Fifteen or so years later we co-wrote and recorded “sheffield steel” which is a reflection on Cherry’s story……………this is available now
SHEFFIELD STEEL lyrics:
... Read MoreRemember all the things i used to plan back then
Ambitions and decisions were as clear as day
Achieving all my passions would come my way
No matter what they said i could or couldn’t do
But that was back then, and this is now
I never ever doubted my power
Even when the sharks were pulling me down
I would get right back on my feet and start againYou’re living in cloud cuckoo-land that’s what they said to me
But what I wanted to say to them I said in my head instead
All these lies and nonsense polluting my brain yeah
I took the 9:45 out of sheffield and got on the train
But that was back then, and this is now
I never ever doubted my power
Even when the sharks were pulling me down
I would get right back on my feet and start againLife is what you make it at least thats true for me
They kick you down you get back up
And now thats plain to see
You’re my foundation, security
And all my wishes came true for me
There was a time when it wasn’t like this
But all that is history
that was back then, and this is now
I never ever doubted my power waoow
Even when the sharks were pulling me down
I would get right back on my feet and start again
can you hear me saying
waoow i never ever doubted my power
waoow even when the sharks were pulling me down
I would get right back on my feet and start again
can you hear me saying
From the Piano

So,here it is……..From the Piano -vol 1… Honed and sculpted over many years ,these peices have often acted as a sanctuary,a counter balance to the pace and pressures of urban life.,…. a colourful, quiet space where i can drift on the ocean of my emotions. As i dont write this music down, these recordings are my only way of documenting these musical excursions. ..one day ill perform them live.
In the meantime,……enjoy,

The Blockheads are 60’s generation musicians who found fame backing Ian Dury in the late 70’s. Over the course of six decades, collectively they have played on hundreds of records for, written with, and backed countless artists live all over the world, including:
Paul McCartney, The Clash, Kilburn and the High Roads, John Legend, The Eurythmics, Nick Cave, Roger Daltrey, Roy Budd, Madness, Wilko Johnson, The Animals, Feargal Sharkey, Peter Frampton, Lulu, Link Wray, Tim Hardin, Ian Gillan & Roger Glover, Sinéad O’Connor, Talk Talk, Dr John, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Nick Lowe, Paul Young, Elkie Brooks, Bob Geldof, Tom Robinson, World Party, Robbie Williams, Kirsty McColl, Steve Cropper, Alan Hull (Lindisfarne), Wreckless Eric, Cerys Matthews, Viv Albertine, Frankie Howerd and June Whitfield, The Selector, London Beat, Rachel Sweet, Kiyoshiro Imawano, Dave Stewart and the Spiritual Cowboys, Jools Holland, and Shane MacGowan, to name a few.
Elton John was quoted as saying that Ian Dury had the best live band in England and this reputation made them the number one session musicians in the UK, before the age of sampling and programmed music took hold. Their live performances still inspire to this day.
No one has ever told the full story of The Blockheads on film and previous documentaries involving anything to do with the band, focused mainly on the artists they were backing; this will change with this new definitive documentary we’re making with Free Seed Films. With such varied and extensive careers, we need to raise money to cover archive footage costs!
